Professional Pet Dental Cleanings and Our Pet Health Standard

Your pet’s mouth makes up an important part of his or her healthcare. Maintaining your pet’s oral hygiene with at-home care, as well as routine dental exams and professional dental cleanings, will ensure your pet’s comfort and enjoyment in eating, drinking, and playing and steers clear of any oral-related medical issues, such as periodontal disease.

What to Expect During a Pet Health Dental Cleaning

At Pet Health, your pet’s comfort and safety during any procedure is our first priority. Prior to a professional dental cleaning, performed under general anesthesia, we confirm your pet is healthy enough to undergo the procedure with a comprehensive medical history, thorough physical health exam, and pre-anesthetic blood work.  Once approved for anesthesia, your pet’s professional dental cleaning includes:

  • Intraoral Radiographs – X-rays reveal problems not visible to the naked eye: cavities, cracked teeth, and abscesses.
  • Scaling – Professional dental cleaning tools remove plaque, tartar, and calculus. Scaling teeth promotes healthy gum tissue and prevents periodontal disease.
  • Polishing – Polishing removes residual plaque and smoothes the surface to delay future build-up of tartar and calculus.
  • Probing and Charting – Special tools examine oral health. This allows us to measure and track oral health, while revealing any abnormalities.

Advanced Pet Dental Conditions

Due to most dental disease taking place under the gum line, our veterinarian might not be able to provide a complete diagnosis prior to your pet’s dental cleaning. Issues might appear in your pet’s x-rays or as tartar on the surface of the tooth is removed. Advanced dental diseases and conditions include:

  • Periodontal Disease – Gum disease occurs when inflammation-triggering bacteria collects in pockets, created by calculus, separating the gums from the teeth. If left untreated, bacteria can spread through your pet’s bloodstream, harming organs throughout the body.
  • Broken Teeth – A broken tooth causes infection and discomfort to your pet. Broken teeth often require extraction.
  • Abscesses – An infection of the tooth’s inner root system which appears on an x-ray and requires treatment and antibiotics.
  • Resorptive Lesions – A feline oral concern, tooth resorption is characterized by the steady deterioration and loss of teeth.

Advanced conditions, such as those listed above, often require further treatment. At Pet Health, we always obtain our pet parent’s authorization prior to proceeding with any unanticipated procedure during your pet’s professional dental cleaning.

Pet Health vs. Low-Cost

Several veterinary providers advertise low-cost dental procedures. These advertised fees may only cover the procedure itself, but do not include additional procedures and precautions, which we, at Pet Health, believe are vital to your pet’s well-being. We do our best to provide transparent up-front costs regarding your pet’s dental health and emphasize communicating clearly with pet parents regarding their pet’s health, procedures, and treatment options.
If you have any question or concerns regarding your pet’s dental care or what constitutes safe professional dental procedure, we encourage you to speak with a Pet Health veterinarian today.

Anesthesia with Pet Health: Our Safety Assurance

At Pet Health, we only use human-grade anesthetic for all anesthetic procedures, including professional dental cleanings. Our clinic is equipped with state-of-the-art anesthetic monitoring equipment and a fully-trained staff to vigilantly monitor our patients both during their procedures and their recovery. In addition, Pet Health gives your pet our undivided attention by limiting our anesthetic procedures to two patients per day.
As professional dental cleanings are performed under anesthesia, we understand the anticipation and nervousness felt while waiting to hear how your pet is doing. To help alleviate this concern, we provide pet parents with text message updates throughout a pet’s procedure.

Pet Health Hospital is a life saver. My poor cat was attacked by another cat and developed a terrible abscess on her little head. Dr. Pizzillo was the attending veterinarian who treated my BabyGir!!. She was able to get the situation under control before it became more serious. Dr. Pizzillo is compassionate and caring. She has a very calming way about her and put my worries at ease. The entire staff is very professional and welcoming. I am going to recommend Pet Health Hospital to anyone needing an excellent veterinarian. Thank you to all of you!!!!

Pet Health has been a wonderful health care service for our baby – Gracie.  She has a very serious health issue arise – and Dr. Lewis texted on a regular basis to check on her, to see how things were progressing and to see if we needed any help.   I am very grateful for their genuine love and concern for our dog.  thank you!

Love this vet! Clean and high tech! The entire staff was friendly and so loving to my dog! First time here and I have already recommended this place to all my friends! The vet even followed up with us as she said she would on the urine test.

Great place. We’ve been to many vets throughout our dogs 7 years life span. This is the best place we’ve been to so far. Dr. Renee Lewis has a great presence and our dog was surprisingly extremely calm around her (he like every other dog, don’t like vets..).

This clinic is not very pushy wanting to do ‘extra’ work to create a larger bill.

Dr. Lewis also showed that she really cared and took her time to get to know our dog, and explaining everything after the surgery.

I’m done with Veterinaries that only cares about profit and rush through the consultation because they’re overbooked!

The staff here are also very friendly and helpful. They made us feel welcome!

I highly recommend this place!

Pet Health Animal Hospital is simply amazing. We found Dr. B and his team shortly after adopting our first dog. Being new to the area, we were concerned with finding the right vet that cared about our dog as much as we did. Lucky enough, we walked right into the perfect vet. From overnight stays to surgeries, Dr B and his team make us feel so comfortable, put any concern at ease, and are masters of communication. There is never a question left unanswered, or an update left undelivered. The whole team knows our dogs when we walk in, and our dogs are always excited and sprinting to get into the vet to see them. I tell people all the time that my favorite part of living in Las Vegas is Pet Health Animal Hospital!

The doctors and assistants do an amazing job here. I wasn’t sure what to do with my Sasha so I brought her in fearing the worst. Dr. Jessica Pizzillo was simply the best. She was able to remove the growth the same day and at a fraction of the cost of other estimates I had received, all while putting my Sasha through the least amount of trauma possible.

The front desk staff was also very kind and understanding when it comes to stressful situations like this. Stephanie and the rest of the staff made me feel comfortable and were very professional.

Absolutely incredible vet! The level of service and attention is the best I’ve ever experienced anywhere.
